Lace & Bones

lace and skeleton fiber artI shared the beginnings of this piece back on this post, and here’s the finished work. Such a lovely combination of hand painted muslin, lace from the grandma’s collections, and left over burlap and green lace from my wedding.

Chevron patterns are all over the place right now so it was fun to find a way to incorporate it into my own vision. The stick definitely pulled it all together and gave it that final touch of nature it needed.

This was my first time working with Lutradur, a mixed media art supply that’s a cross between fabric and paper. In this piece I used it to feed through my printer to create the moose skeleton image, then I was able to free motion stitch over all the lines. It worked really well for that, but a lot more experimentation is in order!

Something about this piece feels a little melancholy, which was definitely not intentional. What do you feel when you look at this?
