Collage a Day In May

Took a break from my series, because life, but I’ve set aside a few minutes each day to start working on my journal. All the organizing of my materials inspired me to jump in and commit to a collage a day in May…and I’m hooked! Here are my first ten pages…

On the first page I just started gluing without overthinking it, and from the second page on I created more unified collages with bits of all my interests and different moods. It was a quick natural progression and it’s proving to be a perfect daily practice because I can make one in 15 minutes or so now that all my images are cut, sorted into categories and easily accessible. The white spaces are for drawings and journalling that will most likely be for my eyes only.

The journalling space is coming along...
The journalling space is coming along…

An unexpected result of setting up this space was that as I began digging through images I’d been collecting for 20 years, old ideas came flooding in. (20 years!!!) I’ve carted some of this stuff around through 12 moves since I was a teenager, it’s amazing really. For one, it’s reignited my passion for fashion and some of the ideas I had as a 21 year old fashion school graduate may come full circle. I’ll continue working on my current series while these other ideas have time to brew, then come back to them when the time is right. Between my journal and the pile of notes I’ve poured into Evernote I have no shortage of ideas to draw from…I’ll just have to keep chipping away at them in the time I have available…parenting a toddler is no joke, we’re almost down to one nap a day. It’s funny how the newborn phase can feel so overwhelming while you’re in it and then one day you wake up and have a toddler climbing up furniture and emptying cabinets onto the floor and realize the eat, sleep, poo cycle was actually quite simple, lol!
